Spread (Handicap)
Think of a spread as a forced advantage. The favorite hands you a negative number, the underdog a positive one. Win the spread, win the cash. Simple.
Moneyline
Pure win-or-lose. No points, no frills. You pick the team; the odds dictate your payout. The bigger the favorite, the smaller the return.
Over/Under (Total)
Here the bookmaker says, “This game will have X points total.” You bet whether the real total will eclipse (over) or stay below (under) that figure.
Parlay
Combo bet. Stack multiple selections, multiply risk, multiply reward. Miss one, and the whole thing collapses. By the way, the house loves parlays.
Prop Bet
Short for proposition. Anything outside the final score: first goal scorer, corner count, even the color of the referee’s shirt. Niche, but juicy.
Live Betting
Odds shift in real time. You watch the action, you react. Timing is everything; a second delay can cost you.
Juice (Vigorish)
The commission the bookie takes. Usually 10% hidden in the odds. If you’re not accounting for juice, you’re overpaying.
Push
When the final result lands exactly on the line. Your stake returns, no profit, no loss. Nice break, but not a win.
Bankroll Management
Never bet more than 1-2% of your total funds on a single play. Discipline beats luck every time. Here is the deal: treat your bankroll like a business.
